NATO want the Crimea back, and note that it’s a major Soviet military base. Actually, Russia was leasing that base before the Ukraine had a LOT of US help to get rid of the neutral president who wanted to be friends with both Russia and Europe and replace him with a rabidly anti-Russian president who wanted to ban the Russian language and the Russian religion from the Ukraine. He was replaced with a president, elected in a fair election, who was a native Russian speaker but was told he can never use the Russian language, and the people running the Ukraine say he will be quickly deposed if he is not adequately anti-Russian. So he agreed to do as he was told and demand the return of the Crimea.
