Hezbollah Sees ISIL as US Means to Increase Dominance in Region

TEHRAN (FNA)- Deputy Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah Resistance Movement Sheikh Naim Qassem described the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) as a means of the US to increase its dominance in the Middle East.

“The US scenario for using Takfiri terrorists is in line with controling the region,” Sheikh Qassem said in a meeting with a delegation from the Palestinian Fatah Movement in Beirut on Tuesday.

He noted that the US attempt to destroy the Middle East and deploy the Takfiri terrorists is part of the efforts made by Washington to control the region in line with Israel’s interests.

Sheikh Qassem also praised the Palestinian nation for its resistance against the Israeli regime, saying that the Palestinians have proved their capability in this confrontation.

In similar remarks, Sheikh Qassem had also stressed last month that Washington is the main sponsor of the ISIL terrorist group.

“Since the beginning, the US supported the ISIL and thought that it can use the group for confronting the Islamic Republic of Iran and the regional nations to rearrange the regional structure. They attempted to overthrow the Syrian government and annihilate it by the help of this group (but failed),” Qassem told FNA in September.

He said the US felt endangered when it saw the ISIL has grown so powerful that it has surrounded swathes of land in Syria and Iraq and was threatening Washington’s interests. “And now the US is after weakening the role of the ISIL to control it but it’s not after its annihilation.”

Qassem said that the United States’ actual policy on the ISIL would be revealed in the next few days.

The ISIL has seized parts of Northern Iraq and Syria so far. The terrorist group has been committing heinous crimes in the captured areas, including the mass execution of civilians.
