President al-Assad performs Eid al-Adha prayer at al-Nu’man Bin Bashir Mosque in Damascus
President Bashar al-Assad on Saturday performed Eid al-Adha prayer at al-Nu’man Bin Bashir Mosque in Damascus.
Senior officials in the state and the Baath Arab Socialist Party (BASP), a number of the People’s Assembly members, Syria’s Grand Mufti, several Islamic scholars and a crowd of citizens also performed the prayer.
Following the prayer which was led by Sheikh Adnan al-Afiouni the President listened to the Eid sermon with Sheikh al-Afiouni saying: ” Eid is associated with happiness in the life of the nation,” he said. “But Eid has not entered our homes because the West and its tools decided to make Syria a battlefield for the implementation of their interests and agendas,”
Sheikh al-Afiouni stressed that the recent terrorist bombing in Homs, which claimed the lives of dozens of innocent civilians, mostly schoolchildren, is a clear example on the terrorism, infidelity and treachery of the foreign-backed tools.
“We pray for God to protect our country from a great conspiracy that targets its role, presence and resilience,” he said, adding: ” We pledge to keep the country from being turned into a war zone, torn apart and divided,” he said, referring to “plans drawn up at the White House.
