Hundreds of Ethiopian forces have poured into Guriel town of central Somalia’s region of Galgadud, according to residents of the town.

Ethiopian army were officially integrated into the African Union in Somalia to help the fight against the Al Qaeda linked group of Al Shabab.

According to residents, the Ethiopian forces entered the town and stationed at former Somalia military vamp outside Guriel town early today.

The town as part of the Galgadud region is administered by the moderate Sufi militia known as Ahlusuna which has been an active ally for both Somalia government and the Ethiopian army.

The move came as AMISOM and the government of Somalia both declared the start of a joint operation to eliminate the militant group from Somalia territory within this year.

Somalia: Ethiopian PM Says They Will Fight Alshabab

11 FEBRUARY 2014

Ethiopian troops have been in and out of Somalia for many years, protecting its border. The federal government of Ethiopia has once again confirmed it will strengthen its fight against Al-Shabab militia groups in Somalia.

The prime minister of Ethiopia Hailemariam deseglen has praised the role of AMISOM forces in Somalia saying the contingent has achieved tangible developments since deployed in Somalia.

Hailemariam was speaking during a press conference in Addisababa in which he highlighted the role of AMISOM in Somalia, the fight against Al-Shabab militants and the integration of Ethiopian armed forces into AMISOM.

More than 4,000 Ethiopian troops have been formally absorbed into the African Union force in Somalia. They will be responsible for security in the south-western regions of Gedo, Bay and Bakool, the AU said.

Ethiopia’s contribution takes the AU force to the 22,000-strong level mandated by the UN Security Council.

Ethiopian forces have been operating in neighboring Somalia for several years, helping the UN-backed government fight against Al-Shabab.

Al-Shabab Attack Kills 6 in Somali Capital

VOA News
February 13, 2014

Militant group al-Shabab has claimed responsibility for a deadly car bomb explosion in Somalia’s capital.

Authorities in Mogadishu tell VOA that at least six people were killed, including three Somali soldiers, and eight others were injured in Thursday’s blast.

Daniel Maclsaac, a spokesman for the United Nations refugee agency, says the bomb appeared to target a U.N. convoy.

“A vehicle exploded close to a convoy of U.N. vehicles at about 12:30 there today. It was near the international airport in Mogadishu,” he said. “The U.N. in Somalia strongly condemns the attack and expresses deep sorrow at the reported deaths and injuries of Somali bystanders.”

Somali security sources tell VOA that the U.N. agency’s representative, Alessandra Morelli, was traveling in one of the cars.

MacIsaac says no U.N. staffers were hurt in the blast.

Al-Shabab at one point controlled large parts of Somalia, but was pushed out of major cities by African Union forces and the Somali government.

The al-Qaida-linked group still carries out periodic attacks in Somalia, and also claimed responsibility for the attack on a Kenyan shopping mall last September that killed more than 60 people.

Somalia: Mortar fire rains down on Mogadishu

Midnimo.com

At least eight mortar rounds rained down on the Somali capital of Mogadishu late Wednesday, security officials and witnesses said. The mortar attacks, the second barrage to rattle the capital in the past week, were scattered across several parts of Mogadishu, including the presidential palace and the national theater, the officials and witnesses said.

Reports of casualties and damage were not immediately available, security officials said.
Mohamud Shiekh, a witness near the national theater, said that at least one mortar landed near presidential palace.

“It was really scary. It’s reminiscent of the 2010 chaos,” he said.

A barrage of mortar fire from Islamic extremists pummeled parts of the Somali capital for two nights last week, near the presidential palace and other government buildings. Some civilian homes were struck.

At least 13 civilians were injured in last week’s attacks.

Al-Shabaab, the Somali-based group with ties to al Qaeda, claimed responsibility for last week’s attacks.

In recent years, U.S. officials had considered Al-Shabaab to be diminished in strength, but after the attack at the Westgate shopping mall in Kenya last year, officials have worried that the group has demonstrated a renewed capability.

Somali national army and African Union peacekeepers are in final preparations for major offensive against Al-Shabaab, according to President Hassan Sheikh Mohamud.

The radical Islamist group, which controls parts of Somalia, has said it aims to turn the country into a fundamentalist Islamist state.

Al-Shabaab foreign forces are recruited and trained by MI5 agents.

In reality, Al-Shabaab was infiltrated by old MI6 assets long ago, and its foreign forces are recruited and trained by MI5 agents (see below). If there is an attack on the Olympic Games carried out by Al-Shabaab, it will almost certainly be a false-flag designed to propel a war-weary public into supporting yet more bloodshed in the Pentagon’s quest for Full Spectrum Dominance.4 With one million Somalis dependent on Red Cross food aid (and not by accident), a British-led invasion could lead to mass starvation.
