Denmark urges Israel to probe police beating of Danish activist

Denmark has demanded information and clarifications from Tel Aviv concerning an assault by a senior Israeli military officer against a Danish pro-Palestinian activist in the occupied West Bank.

“We are not aware of all the circumstances surrounding the incident. The Danish ambassador has asked the Israeli authorities for an immediate explanation,” Danish Foreign Minister Villy Sovndal said on Monday.

The incident, captured on video, shows the Danish peace activist, Andreas Ias, being severely struck in the head with an M-16 rifle by senior Israeli army Lieutenant-Colonel Shalom Eisne during a cycle rally near Jericho in the West Bank on Saturday.

The Danish protester fell to the ground and was carried away by activists.
